Billing
The API is paid in advance: each generation is charged to a prepaid balance, in euros excluding tax (prices, refunds and balance validity: see Pricing). The balance, top-ups and invoices are managed in the console, on the Billing screen.
The allowed actions depend on the member's role:
| Action | Roles |
|---|---|
| View the balance, the tier and this month's usage | All members |
| Top up, set auto recharge and the monthly limit, view transactions and invoices, edit billing details | Owner, admins, billing members |
The balance is the sum of unexpired top-ups and credits. The Transactions tab lists every entry (top-up, generation, refund, adjustment, granted credit, expiry) with the resulting balance.
- A top-up ranges from €10 excluding tax to the cap of the organization's tier (“Max top-up” column of the tiers) and is paid by card, on a Stripe payment page. This page asks for the billing address (legal name and VAT number optional) and adds the applicable VAT.
- These details appear on the invoices. To edit them, open the Invoices tab, then Billing details.
- The amount is credited as soon as the payment is confirmed, and the invoice appears in the Invoices tab.
- Auto recharge adds the chosen amount as soon as the balance falls below a threshold, from €1 to €5,000. It is also triggered after a
402 insufficient_balancerefusal. - The recharge amount is at least the threshold: after a recharge, the balance is back above it. It does not exceed the top-up cap of the tier: an amount saved above it (cap lowered since) is brought down to the cap.
- It requires a card saved during a top-up. To change the card, use Change card, which opens the Stripe portal.
- Each auto recharge comes with an invoice.
- If the payment is refused (card declined, invalid billing address…), auto recharge is disabled and an email informs the owner and billing members.
- At most 3 auto recharges per rolling 24-hour period: the next one is not started and auto recharge is disabled. The console shows it, and so does the
balance.recharge_failedevent. It can be turned back on once the oldest of these recharges is more than 24 hours old.
- The limit, optional, caps the spending of a calendar month (UTC), from €1 to €100,000 excluding tax. The spending counted is charges minus refunds.
- An email informs the owner and billing members at 50%, 80% and 100% of the limit, once per threshold and per month.
- A generation that would exceed the limit is refused, until the next month or until the limit is raised.
A generation refused for a billing reason gets the
402 status and one of these codes:| Code | Cause | Action |
|---|---|---|
insufficient_balance | The balance does not cover the price. | Top up, or enable auto recharge. |
spend_limit_reached | The generation would exceed the monthly limit. | Raise the limit, or wait for the next month. |
Nothing is created or charged, and the same request gets the same refusal as long as the cause remains. The balance can also be tracked through webhooks.
- A suspended organization gets
403 organization_suspendedon all its requests, whatever the key, and can no longer top up its balance. Contact support. - Only the owner can delete the organization, from the Organization screen, and only when there is no remaining balance and no generation in progress.
